In Early Years and into Key Stage One children use phonics to learn the mechanics of reading. 

Here at St. Johns we use a DFE accedited scheme called Read, Write Inc which helps all children learn to read fluently and at speed.

Once the children have mastered the mechanics of reading they are taught to develop their comprehension skills through daily whole class reading lessons.
