ST. JOHN'S SAFEGUARDING TEAM

SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN

Safeguarding within our school is of the highest priority to ensure our

children remain safe and well cared for at all times.

All members of staff, volunteers and students are enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) cleared before commencing work within our school. On the first day, new staff, visitors, volunteers  and students undertake an induction by a competent and experienced member of staff; receiving a copy of our Safeguarding Policy and Procedures which must be adhered to at all times. In addition parents and carers undergo an enhanced DBS check if they would like to volunteer their help for school visits, etc.

As a new parent or carer at our school you will receive a copy of our Safeguarding Guide for Visitors in your welcome pack, outlining an acceptable code of conduct within our school.

PLEASE NOTE MOBILE PHONES MUST NOT BE USED IN SCHOOL UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES

ONLINE SAFETY

Safeguarding is also about ensuring your child stays safe online.

With the ever-expanding internet sites and social media platforms such as Whats App, Instagram, Snapchat and even texting it is important that you are aware of what is happening in your child's life; ensuring they use technology responsibly and most importantly, safely.

Our Online Safety Lead in school is Mrs Croisdale who works closely with DSL Mr Blackburn and our ICT Technician, Mr Peter Scott to help keep all members of our school community safe online.

Kirklees Safeguarding Board have several links for advice on how YOU can help keep your child safe online and whilst also using mobile phones. If you have any concerns, or just need a little advice, please ask to speak to our Designated Safeguarding Lead or the Deputy Safeguarding Officers who are more than happy to help.

PREVENT

As part of the government's Counter Terrorism Policy an additional Safeguarding Policy, called PREVENT, has been created. It is about supporting and protecting vulnerable children and families from becoming terrorists or supporters of terrorism.

The Head Teacher, Aidan Blackburn, is our PREVENT Co-ordinator as part of their role as

Designated Safeguarding Lead and you can report any concerns directly to him.

REMEMBER - IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS, NO MATTER HOW SMALL,

WE WOULD RATHER HEAR 'It's probably nothing' TIME AND TIME AGAIN

RATHER THAN MISS THAT ONE CHILD OR FAMILY WE COULD HAVE HELPED
