Long Term Plan

Things to remember

Everyday

We need to bring the following things to school every day:

  • Planner: These contain our weekly spellings and our log in details for the laptops.
  • Reading Book: We read in school daily.
  • Water Bottle: In order to help us learn we need to be fully hydraded.

Monday and Thursday:

PE Kits: As we are in Key Stage 2 and we are growing up, we need to change into our PE kit for our PE lessons. This is to ensure we remain hygienic and comfortable throughout the school day. Please remember to have your PE kit in school and to wash your PE kit regularly.

Tuesday

Homework: Homework will be given out on Tuesdays and collected in on Tuesdays. Homework will be sent out via the Class Dojo Portfolio. If you need homework to be given in paper format, please contact Mrs Banham or Mrs Wilks and we will arrange this on a weekly basis.

Friday

Spelling Test: The spellings given on a Friday will be stuck in planners and are based upon the spelling unit that the children have completed in class that week. Please support your child by practising these at home.

Timestable Test: Children will be tested on the timestables they have been taught on a weekly basis. Completed tests will be sent home so that they can be consolidated. Please practise timestables regularly at home either orally or using Purple Mash.

What can you do to help your child?

Attendance: Our days are jam packed to ensure that your child becomes secure in their learning and meets the end of Key Stage expectations. Frequent late arrivals and absences leaves gaps in your child's learning which impacts what they are able to achieve.

Please support us by:

  • Ensuring that your child comes to school everyday.
  • Ensure that your child arrives in class at 8:40am.
  • Where possible avoid appointments during the school day.
  • Avoid taking holidays during term time.

Homework: Homework will be set weekly and will consolidate work completed in class that week.

Homework will include the following;

  • Maths: This will focus on the key skills learned in class that week.
  • English: This will focus on the key skills learned in class that week.
  • Spelling: Use LOOK, COVER, WRITE, CHECK to practise spellings throughout the week.
  • Timestables: Use Purple Mash to develop timestable knowledge 2 or 3 times per week.

Please encourage and support your child to complete their homework regularly.

Reading:

  • Children should develop the habit of reading at home daily, sometimes independently and sometimes with an adult.
  • Listen to your child read; model how a text should be read to your child, discuss the meaning of new words and phrases and ask questions to ensure that your child is understanding what they have read.
  • Engage in talk with your child about what they have read.
  • Once they have finished a text, your child should complete a quiz in class to show that they have understood what they have read.
  • Encourage your child to choose books within their ZPD range.

Times Tables: Quick recall of all timestables and their related division facts is a key skill for Key Stage Two pupils.

  • Ask your child multiplication and division facts regularly.
  • Ensure that your child uses Purple Mash to practise their timestables at least 2/3 times per week.
  • Look at the results of your child's timestable test send home on a Friday and help them imporve those that were incorrect.

Year 4 Common Exception Words: These are the words that your child should be able to read and spell accurately by the end of Year 4.

  • Practise 2/3 of these words per week until your child can spell them accurately.
